• W3C: Web
World Wide Web Consortium: Has the charter to define the standard versions of HTML. The W3C has the broader responsibility of managing and standardizing most WWW technologies (XML, HTTP, CSS, etc.). Link to: http://www.w3.org

• W3C Specification Status: Web
The W3C indicates the stability of specifications by a status code. The CSS working group uses the following, from least to most stable:
  • WD: Working Draft
  • LC: Last Call
  • CR: Candidate Recommendation
  • PR: Proposed Recommendation
  • REC: Recommendation

• Weakly Typed: JavaScript Syntax
Values given to variables (and properties) will reflect a data type. Data types in JavaScript are not explicitly specified, thus, JavaScript is an untyped language. The data type of a JavaScript variable is derived and applied dynamically. The dynamic typing of a variable's data type is termed weakly typed.

• while Statement JavaScript Statement
The while statement is one of JavaScript's program control structures. while is a keyword in the JS language. The while statement has two syntactical components. First, the while header contains a conditional expression that is enclosed in parentheses. The expression is called a loop condition. Following the header is a while block that is sometimes referred to as the while loop body. The loop condition acts as a decision maker and it is a logical expression that evaluates to a boolean value. The condition that will terminate the loop is tested on each iteration. As long as the test remain true, the loop is executed one more time. Once the loop condition tests to be false the loop is terminated. Once terminated, the program flow procedes to the next sequencial statement immediately after the while statement. The loop body is responsible for altering the test condition in the loop conditional expression, otherwise an endless loop will occur.

• Whitespace: JavaScript and CSS Syntax
Whitespace is a small character set made up of spaces, tabs and newlines. A series of these characters will be ignored by the interpreter as they appear between tokens. Some exceptions will occur in string literals and regular expression patterns. Extra spaces in a string literal will become part of the literal token. With regular expressions, placement of every character is critical. Whitespace characters are not allowed as part of an identifier.

• Wildcard Predefined Class JavaScript RegExp
The predefined character class set has one token we call the wildcard. The wildcard token is a period. The period indicates it can represent any literal character except a new line (\n) and a carriage return (\r). Like other predefined class tokens, the wildcard need not be enclosed in the square brackets. You may specify more than one consecutive wildcard.

• with Statement JavaScript Statement
The with statement allows programmers to use a shorthand form when referencing objects. with is a keyword in the JS language. The with statement has two syntactical components. First, the with header contains the named object. Following the header is a block statement where references to the object can take a shorthand notation. Specifically, the reference to the named object as specified in the header can be omitted when referring to either methods or properties of the same object. The with statement should be avoided. Confusion and mistakes can occur, when referencing methods or properties of other objects within the same with statement block. It is better to be explicit and use a fully qualified name for all references to all object methods or properties.

• Wrapper Class: JavaScript OOD
JavaScript will wrap object characteristics to any variable created by a literal. JS will parse the literal token, determine the data type based on predefined determining factors and finally apply or wrap the object methods and properties appropriate for the data type to the variable being assigned the literal. The String, Boolean and Number classes serve as wrapper classes with JavaScript.
