Past Work Experience

I started learning about computer programming in 1965. I attended a business school, The Northwest School of Business, of Lynnwood Washington for about one year. Here, we learned 2nd generation IBM mainframe programming languages. About half way through the course, the school converted to 3rd generation IBM computer equipment and we learned RPG and 360 Mod-20 Assembler.

The above schooling was enough to land a programming job with GTE of the Northwest. I stayed with GTE for 26 years. I worked at three separate subsidiaries of GTE, but most of the time was with GTEDS (GTE Data Services).

In 1993, I exercised an early-out retirement offer from GTEDS. After GTE, I worked as a contractor. Most of this time was in the client/server arena. I worked at the Naval Base in Port Hueneme California; next, I worked at a workers comp insurance company and lastly, I worked at Southern California Gas Company on a Y2K project.

Due to complications from medical issues which made commuting difficult, I retired in 2002. But I have not abandon my computer. I have researched the W3C supported technologies and built Web sites around these standardized technologies.

For further details, you can take the links below that expand on the work experience giving details on experiences with computer architecture, business application exposure, projects and work skills. The work experience details are sectioned into the following three eras of my work life:

  1. IBM Mainframe with GTE
  2. Client/Server as a Contractor
  3. Web

Web

Because of some medical issues due to back surgery, I have not pursued additional employment since 2002. Not being able to divorce myself from my computer, I have continued to take programming classes at Moorpark College. I have spent hundreds of hours building Web Sites that cover Web Technologies that are supported by standards out of the W3C efforts. I have built a site that covers HTML 4.01. I also built the JavaScript Core Web site that probably linked the viewer to this page if you are reading this paragraph. I have published the JavaScript site but have not published the HTML site. I am currently working on a CSS site.

Formal Education

Diplomas:

Most of my college classes were night classes. The UW classes involved a 25 mile commute. The City University classes were normally much closer because of the remote campus site philosophy of the school. GTE paid for all the costs, both tuition and books.

At the time, UW did not offer a MBA degree via a night school venue. I initially enrolled at Seattle University because they offered the MBA degree via night classes. Plus, at the time Seattle University was experimenting with class offering at remote sites. I was able to take two classes at a site just five miles from my house, then Seattle University abandon the remote site MBA class offering idea. I was not willing to commute to Seattle anymore, so I enrolled at City University.

Planned Activities

You will see the symbols "Rx4AJAX" on most of my pages. At one point in time, I had a goal of building a content site for each of the Web technologies that support the AJAX methodology. We will see!!
